Smith’s hip injury forces a national ratio patch

Smith, a 2025 second-round Canadian, had 46 tackles in seven starts; his roster spot goes to Canadian linebacker Lane Novak (fifth-round 2025, 10 games, four special-teams tackles). Promoting Novak suggests Winnipeg is protecting its national ratio while starting veteran Michael Griffin II, a hidden cost of the injury.
